Hello
everyone,
This
message finds us nearing the end of spring and the beginning of summer.
Many of you have finished up the budget process and some of you may be in
the conclusion of contract negotiations. This generally feels like a
positive time for Police Administrators who can look to the future of their
Police Departments.
This is my
first President's Message since the April Annual Conference and I want to
express how honored I am to be your President. For the upcoming year I am
going to focus on communication to the Board of Directors, Officer
Wellness, develop a committee to explore issues in Law Enforcement for
people experiencing homelessness, and provide help with strategies for Law
Enforcement Administrators to assist our personnel transition into
retirement.
I wanted
to highlight the work of the OACP Legislative Committee and Kevin Campbell
this session. I think there is an under-emphasis on how much work and
relationship-building they have put into this session. I also know they
will be relieved when this session is over.
Our
quarterly board meeting is scheduled for July 22nd in Southern Oregon. Time
and location will be announced to our Board Directors in the next few weeks
once it is finalized. I am hoping to have an event after the meeting to
showcase Southern Oregon, such as a jet boat ride or a summer concert. If
you are interested in attending, reach out to your District
Representatives.
The
website and Committee Management System have been updated with our current
Committee Members and Chairs. Individual profiles are being updated this
week to reflect committee membership. See the link above to review the
list. If you are on a committee, expect to be hearing from your Committee
Chair to provide a clear direction for your committee this upcoming year.
I have
already had the opportunity to meet with several Chiefs at their
Departments, to travel to Nashville for Women in Law Enforcement Conference
and to participate in several speakers' panels for OACP. I can tell this is
going to be a year of opportunity for everyone who is involved in OACP and
I'm proud to be in this Association.
Lastly,
Happy Birthday to Kevin, our fearless leader, who celebrated his birthday
last Thursday. We wish you the best!
