Chief Mark Daniels (Mt. Angel PD) and Chief Dave Rash (Hubbard PD)
along with other members of the OACP traveled to the FBI National Academy Associates conference in Scottsdale, Arizona last week. One of the class offerings, not on the agenda, was a presentation from the detective who investigated and arrested Ernesto Miranda. Chief Rash and Chief Daniel had the opportunity to have their photo taken with retired Captain Carroll Cooley, who was the case detective and began the process which ended in the United States Supreme Court's Miranda decision. The Miranda case was described from the original call to the presentation before the Supreme Court. This was an awesome opportunity to meet Captain Cooley and better understand such a "premier case" for law enforcement in our history.
