Happy (almost) 4th of July to everyone!

Many of you are currently preparing for your annual Independence Day Celebrations and Festivals in your cities which highlight our country's freedom and the service of our Police Departments and Officers to your respective cities. I encourage everyone to take a moment to pause and reflect on the meaning of this holiday and how it can bring common ground to our country and unite our profession amongst the communities we serve.

This week marks the first Wednesday since the Oregon Legislature has come to a close. We saw an unexpected occurrence during the last week when the Senate Republicans strategically walked out only to return to finish up needed business the day before the legislature was scheduled to sine die. Our Executive Director, Kevin Campbell, will be preparing his summary of this session while also forecasting what is to come in the 2020 short session.

July 1st marks several retirements in Oregon. Thank you Chief Monger from Beaverton, Chief Sparacino from Medford, Chief Enyeart from Toledo, and Chief Spirup from Gervais for your service. Welcome to Chief Scott Clauson in Medford, Chief Mike Pace in Toledo, and to Chief Mark Chase in Gervais.

Our July Board Meeting will be on the 22nd at 11am at the Central Point Police Department and the Joint OACP/OSSA Fall Conference will be September 11th and 12th at DPSST. Please help support the OACP and attend our conferences and meetings to help plan the future of our Association.

Have a great July and as always if you have questions please feel free to reach out to me at kris.allison@centralpointpolice.gov.

Chief Kris Allison
OACP President
